Theatre for Kids
For nearly 6,000 at-risk children across Massachusetts, 2010 will be remembered as the year they saw their first professional theatre or arts performance.
Honoring the wish of the Marilyn Rodman Theatre for Kids program's namesake, young people who otherwise would not be fortunate enough to have exposure to the arts were treated to complimentary tickets to some of the year's hottest shows, including Dreamgirls and the much-anticipated return of Wicked.
But first, the year started out on an exciting note when we bought out the Boston Opera House on January 14 for the exciting, youthful show, In the Heights.
Tickets for all shows and events are purchased by the Theatre for Kids program, usually at a discount thanks to generous donors and partners. Our premier partner, Broadway Across America-Boston, offers significant financial support by adding a $10 service fee to all house seat requests. 100% of that fee supports Theatre for Kids.
After purchasing the tickets, Theatre for Kids then distributes tickets to youth-focused organizations through the state, allowing them to bring children to the events at no cost.As always, events extended outside the theatre to include the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus and The Boston Landmark Orchestra's unforgettable concert at Fenway park, among others. Kids also had the chance to experience some holiday nostalgia at Jordan's Furniture's legendary Enchanted Village when Jordan's donated a few hours of private access to the sought-after attraction to Theatre for Kids.
2011 is expected to be another great year with Mary Poppins, Disney On Ice, West Side Story, and a fantastic 2011-2012 theatre season on the way!
The Marilyn Rodman Theatre for Kids program, a collaboration between the Ride for Kids charity and Broadway Across America-Boston, introduces the wonder of live theatre to at risk-children in need of positive experiences in an effort to expose them to new possibilities and inspire a lifelong love of performing arts.As always, all tickets were distributed at no cost to non-profit organizations and schools that serve at-risk youth in the Greater Boston area. Thanks to our partners, Broadway Across America-Boston, along with our generous donors, all tickets were either donated or purchased by the Theatre forKids program at a discount.
